Recyclable Items
These items can be recycled:
- Paper – dry & clean newspapers, computer paper, magazines, mixed paper, junk mail, wrapping paper at Christmas.
- Tin/Aluminum Cans – empty, rinsed, caps, lids, & foil, food and beverage cans, empty aerosol cans; label left on is OK.
- Plastics – rinsed, clear and colored plastics with #1,2,3,4,5, 6 & 7 stamped on bottom, milk and soap jugs, food, beverage, and household cleaning bottles.
- Cardboards – tissue boxes, cereal, shoe and beverage boxes, food boxes without food stains, as in hamburger helper box, cake box, pizza box, laundry soap box.

There is no charge for dropping off the types of recycling listed above.
Appliances: Household appliances like refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, dehumidifiers, etc., can be dropped off at the landfill for a charge for recycling. These items are not allowed in the landfill per Iowa law.
- If you are a Mid-American Energy customer you can take advantage of their appliance recycling program. They will pick up for free your working refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner. They will also rebate you $50.00 for the refrigerator or freezer. They will rebate you $25.00 for the air conditioner. Call them at 800-621-2757 with questions or to schedule a pick-up.
No Batteries!
Please do not include batteries of any kind in your recycling. We had a fire in June of 2021 that destroyed one of our buildings and the most likely cause of the fire was batteries in the recycling. Batteries must be taken to the household hazardous waste facility!
